Delhi seeks support from the center and will bear the full cost of artificial rain.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated on Wednesday that the Kejriwal administration intends to use cloud seeding to create artificial rain in order to reduce air pollution in Delhi.Scientists from IIT Kanpur met with Mr. Rai and stated that cloud seeding could only be tried in the presence of clouds or moisture in the sky.
According to experts, these kinds of situations can arise between November 20 and November 21. The minister informed reporters, "We have requested that the scientists draft a proposal by Thursday, which will be presented to the Supreme Court.
Mr. Rai emphasized that getting the required approvals and permits for this technology from the federal and state governments is a matter of urgency.Director General of the India Meteorological Department Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told PTI that attempts to create artificial rain are only possible when clouds and moisture are present.
Cloud seeding is a technique that creates artificial rain by releasing materials into the atmosphere to promote condensation and precipitation. Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide), potassium iodide, and silver iodide are the materials most frequently used for cloud seeding. These substances serve as the nuclei that allow water vapor to condense and eventually create rain or snow.
This method of modifying the weather has been used all around the world, but mostly in areas that are facing drought or water constraint.
Still up for debate and investigation, though, are cloud seeding's efficacy and environmental effects.
